Wellington Zoo is home to more than 500 animals (and over 100 species). New Zealand’s first Zoo, we sit on 13 hectares in Wellington city’s green town belt.
Wellington Zoo is open 364 days a year, every day except Christmas Day, from 9.30am – 5.00pm (last entry 4.15pm).

Enjoying your visit at the Zoo
For their safety, please ensure all children are supervised. Any child under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. There are a number of steep hills and water bodies at the Zoo, so please keep an eye on your children at all times.
To ensure your safety, that of other visitors and our animals, please do not bring any of the following into the Zoo: rollerblades, skateboards, bikes, scooters, balloons, whistles, balls, frisbees or other throwing games.
To ensure your safety and that of our animals, please do not feed any of our animals as they are on planned diets and please do not enter any animal exhibit without being accompanied by one of the Zoo team.
Caregivers of disabled persons are give complimentary entry to the Zoo upon presentation of suitable supporting documentation or identification.
Wheel chairs are available for visitors free of charge.
Fully trained and vaccinated guide dogs are welcome to accompany their owners if arranged in advance and on the condition that the guide dogs remain in a full harness at all times. Please call the Zoo bookings office on 04 389 3692 prior to your visit. You will be asked to provide evidence of the guide dog’s full vaccinations.
