Wellington Zoo runs a popular Holiday Programme, co-ordinated by the Learning team. Every day has a different educational animal focus with:

  • behind-the-scenes guided tours of the Zoo
  • arts and crafts workshops
  • organised games and activities
  • an opportunity to share a passion and knowledge of the animal world.

Wellington Zoo's July Holiday Programme 2008:

Monday 7 - Feeding Time at the Zoo
Go behind the scenes and spend time with the Zoo keepers making up the animals' diets. Then go out into the Zoo and feed fabulous animals your treats.

Tuesday 8 - Photo Day
Spend time with a real wild life photographer. Learn how to take great photos, and then go out into the Zoo on a photo shoot. Bring your own camera if you like.

Wednesday 9 - Zoologist Day
Have you got what it takes to be a zoologist? Spend time with the Zoo's vet, training and keeping teams. Learn how to train and handle animals as well as animal first aid.

Thursday 10 - Animals face to face
Get up close and touch some of the Zoo's incredible animals. You may even have a monkey sit on your knee!

Friday 11 - Zoo Keeper for a Day
Back by popular demand! Walk in the shoes of a Wellington Zoo keeper. Scoop poop, explore stores, feed some animals and much more.

Go behind the scenes and spend time with the Zoo keepers making up the animals' diets. Then go out into the Zoo and feed fabulous animals your treats.

Tuesday 15 - Chimps, Clothes and Compost
The Zoo makes its own compost. Find out how we do it, and then use that compost to go around the Zoo planting trees and shrubs. Once finished, bring your old clothes to give to our chimps. Which one will be wearing yours?

Wednesday 16 - Zoologist Day
Have you got what it takes to be a zoologist? Spend time with the Zoo's vet, training and keeping teams. Learn how to train and handle animals as well as animal first aid.

Friday 18 - Zoo Keeper for a Day

Time: 9.00am - 4.30pm

Cost: $50 per child per day. No refunds are issued if your child does not attend.  Payment must be made in advance.

Age: 6 -10 years

Location: Deliver and collect children from the Archibald Centre, 100 metres up Manchester Street from the main Zoo entrance, first driveway on the right (not before 8.45am).

Health and safety:
· Numbers are limited to 30 children per day.
· Co-ordinators hold a current first aid certificate.
· Member of the Wellington Community Childcare  Association (WCCA).

Book in advance to avoid disappointment (Wellington Zoo reserves the right to decline any admission if deemed necessary) for bookings or more information contact Wellington Zoo.
