Catch the bus to the Zoo

13 January 2006

Wellington Zoo and Stagecoach Wellington have commenced an initiative to encourage Zoo visitors to take the bus to the Zoo, Zoo CEO Alison Lash and Stagecoach Wellington Area Manager, Eddie McCaffrey, announced today.

Over the summer months, Zoo visitors who travel two or more sections on a Stagecoach bus to any bus stop in Newtown will receive half price entry to the Zoo for the day of travel.

'The aim of the promotion is to ease some of the parking congestion we experience at the Zoo over summer,' says Ms. Lash.

'Also, as a conservation organisation, we'd like to play our part in helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so we're going to reward our visitors for using public transport rather than their cars,' says Ms. Lash.

'This promotion is a great way for families to get to the Zoo, particularly while kids are off school over the summer break. Customers just need to remember to ask the driver for the Zoo voucher. This promotion is only available to people travelling at least two sections on buses to Newtown,' says Stagecoach Area Manager Eddie McCaffrey .

'Over the summer months it can be difficult to park at the Zoo. So we're calling on Zoo visitors to take the hassle out of it this summer and take the bus. Kids love the bus, so parents could make the bus trip part of the fun,' says Mr McCaffrey.

Usual Zoo admission charges are; children under 3 free, children 3-16 years $6 and adults $12. The promotion will run until the end of March 2006.
