African Savannah now open

The new African Savannah is now open at Wellington Zoo. For the first time at the Zoo, zebras, giraffes, ostriches and antelopes will all be living together.
The cornerstone of the African Savannah is the giraffe house, designed by Athfield Architects. The house has been built using sustainable materials where possible and a rainwater recovery system has been installed to use for cleaning of the giraffe house. The giraffe house has been designed for visitors to see behind the scenes as they walk up the internal raised walkway, and the viewing deck over the exhibit will give them the chance to come face to face with the giraffes.
