Wellington Zoo & Arataki Honey helps free the bears

9 June 2008

Arataki Honey have been proud supporters of the Malayan sun bears at Wellington Zoo for over ten years.

In their visitor centre, they have a sun bear display, where their visitors have the opportunity to donate money to Free the Bears. Free the Bears are an organisation whose aim is to protect, preserve and enrich the lives of bears throughout the world. They rescue bears from countries throughout South East Asia and look after them in their sanctuary or they find appropriate Zoo homes for them. Wellington Zoo's sun bear Sean, was rescued in Cambodia by Free the Bears. He inititally went to Perth Zoo before coming to Wellington Zoo to live with our female Chomel.

Arataki Honey visitors raised $1,000 for Free the Bears, and the Wellington Zoo Conservation Fund has matched that contribution.
