Admission Prices

  • Adult: $15.00
  • Child: 3 - 16 years of age: $7.50
  • Child: Under 3: free.
Concessions
  • Family of 1 adult & up to 3 children $30.00
  • Family of 2 adults & up to 3 children $45.00
  • Students/Community services card holders/seniors $10.00

Or become a member of Wellington Zoo Crew and come to the Zoo as much as you like for a whole year for only:

  • $25 for 1 child
  • $60 for 1 adult

Opening Hours

Wellington Zoo is open 9.30am - 5.00pm every day, except Christmas Day.
Last admission is at 4.15pm.

Please Note - Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult.  

Animal Talks

Check out our special talks starting at 10:00am each day. Zoo maps have daily talk times on them, or call 381 6750 and for a recorded message of daily talks.

How to get to the Zoo

Wellington Zoo is at 200 Daniell Street, Newtown, Wellington

By car Just 10 minutes drive from the centre of Wellington city, with free parking. Parking is limited so we encourage Zoo visitors to use public transport to come to the Zoo.

By bus Go Wellington services

  • No. 10 departs from the Railway Station and runs via Cuba Street.
  • No. 23 from Mairangi via Kelburn and Lambton Quay.
  • No. 83 departs from Eastbourne via Lower Hutt and Petone

By tour Wellington Rover day pass deaprting from the Wellington Visitor Information Centre at various times during the day, has a pick up and drop off service at the Zoo. http://www.wellingtonrover.co.nz/

Situated throughout the Zoo and there is a parent's room in the front entrance foyer.  

Facilities for the Disabled

Parking
There are three designated disability car parks located in the Newtown Park car park.

Toilets
Toilets with wheelchair accessibility are located in the front entrance foyer and near the Historic Elephant house in the middle of the Zoo.

Visitors with impaired mobility
Wheelchairs are available for hire, free of charge. We do not allow mobility scooters in the Zoo but we have a Zoo cruiser which can transport up to 5 people around the Zoo. The cruiser is free of charge for the elderly and those with limited mobility but must be booked in advance.

Zoolittles - 'it's a jungle in there'

Zoolittles is the best place in Wellington to find a huge range of animal-themed gifts and products for all ages. We have:

  • Animal costumes and vests
  • An extensive range of plastic replica animals
  • A fantastic range of soft toys
  • Heaps of animal finger and hand puppets
  • Souvenirs, postcards and Wellington Zoo branded products
  • A great range of childrens' t-shirts
Zoolittles is open from 9.30am - 5.00pm every day (except Christmas Day). It's situated at the main entrance to the Zoo and entry to the shop is free. With free parking it's just 10 minutes drive from the centre of the city.
