As the Trust moves into its third year of
management, Wellington Zoo is enjoying a new zest. With growing
attendance figures, increasing revenues and its local and international
standing high, we look forward with pride to celebrating the Zoo's
hundredth birthday next year.
Over the past year, exciting work on long-term planning has continued
and many elements of the Strategic Plan have been put in place.
New enclosures featuring comfortable and safe quarters for the animals
while offering close access and shelter for visitors have been completed.
Innovative animal conditioning programmes to boost the healthy outcomes
of medical intervention have also served as learning opportunities
for our inquiring public.
The professional excellence of the Zoo crew continues to contribute
to new and improved practices in animal care, conservation, education,
and enriching our understanding of the environment. This is reflected
in our important and expanding role in both regional and global
zoo communities.
Many more innovations are in store. Plans for a new wildlife and
exotic animal hospital are in progress, a redesign of the layout
of pathways and enclosures is under way, and exciting new developments
in animal management are being instituted over the next few years.
We are enormously grateful for the continuing goodwill and valuable
contributions of our many partners and sponsors, and our willing
team of volunteers. Without this extraordinary level of generosity,
we would not be able to achieve the successes we, and Wellington,
can take pride in each day.
