VOLUNTEER

One of the most valuable things that anyone can donate to Wellington Zoo is their time. The Zoo wouldn’t survive without our dedicated and generous volunteer force.

Volunteering at Wellington Zoo gives you an opportunity to share your interest in wildlife and conservation with visitors to the Zoo. Volunteer work at the Zoo is centred on people not animals.

Volunteers work in all areas of the Zoo including supporting Zoo keepers, assisting with administration and maintenance and helping out at fun Zoo events and activities.

To volunteer at Wellington Zoo you have to be at least 18, unfortunately we cannot accommodate younger volunteers at this stage.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit at least two days a month to the Zoo. Zoo volunteers will also need to complete a volunteer induction weekend (the next is scheduled for 27 and 28 September).

Our ideal volunteer is a good communicator, with a strong customer focus, who is courteous, cheerful and reliable.

Contact us to apply or for more information on becoming a volunteer at Wellington Zoo.

‘I love that no two days are ever the same, and that I’m working outside after a week in an office. I love working with people who care as much about animals as I do.’

‘Of all the tasks I get to do helping at the cheetah encounters is top of my list. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of being around such beautiful animals. It’s a real privilege.’
